Voice

In the novel "the cost of all things" by Maggie Lehrman, it is told in first person. Through out the entire book it switches between 4 different peoples perspectives. The book is told by the four main characters. Ari, Win, Markos and Kay but, is mostly revolved around Ari. The story jumps around in time so, to help you understand what is going on and why certain things are happening, they switch who is telling the story. Every character addresses the reader as they talk. By switching from each persons perspective you get to see what they're actually thinking and their actions when no one else is around which is a big part in understanding the story. The story is based around each character doing things that no one else knows about but ironically impacts everyone else. The story takes place on a small island where everyone knows everyone. This setting affects the voice of the story because it shows that even though you can live in a small town and know everyone, you don't actually know everyone.
